Venezuela arrests fallen FARC leader’s right-hand man

by Jim Glade June 1, 2011

Colombia News - Guillermo alias julian

President Juan Manuel Santos reported that FARC leader Guillermo Enrique Torres Cueter, alias “Julian Conrado,” has been caught in Venezuela.

The so-called right hand man of fallen FARC commander “Raul Reyes” was captured in an operation involving both Colombian and Venezuelan authorities, W Radio reported Wednesday.

Santos thanked Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez via Twitter for his help in capturing the FARC guerrilla, adding that Chavez has already decided to extradite Conrado to Colombia to face justice.

The FARC leader that is known for composing songs about life as a guerrilla was originally thought to have been killed in the March 1, 2008 bombing of a FARC camp that killed commander Raul Reyes, but the body originally thought to be Torres’ turned out to belong to an Ecuadorian civilian.
