A helicopter designated for the FARC hostage release mission is diverted to pick up an injured soldier in the southwest department of Caqueta on Friday. The mission will continue unaffected, reports Caracol Radio.
According to Eduardo Pizzaro, the government facilitator for the liberation operations, the incident is unrelated to the release efforts. He said it was the result of the soldier having stepped on a mine and not of any exchange of fire.
All Colombian armed forces operations have been on hold in the area since 6PM Thursday.
The humanitarian operation to release Armando Acuña and Henry Lopez Martinez left Florencia on Friday morning. Mediator Piedad Cordoba stated that Friday’s operation will be more time-consuming than Wednesday’s as the team will have to travel to two separate release sites.
