Panama authorities arrested five Colombians suspected of belonging to the FARC in an indigenous region near the border, reports EFE.
The five suspected Colombian guerrillas were detained, along with one Panamanian, by Panama’s State Border Service (SENAFRONT) on Tuesday in the mountains of the Kuna Yala region.
Panamanian Public Ministry spokesman Luis Serrano told EFE that the five Colombians had not yet been identified as members of the FARC, but an investigation was underway.
Aura Grisales of SENAFRONT said that the five Colombians and one Panamanian must be presumed innocent, but that they had no justification for being in the region, and fled from police before they were captured.
