‘FARC arms trafficker captured in Bogota’

by Tom Heyden March 18, 2011

Colombia news - Hector Gutierrez

Police arrest a suspected FARC member who is accused of being a key liaison between the guerrilla group and international arms traffickers, Caracol Radio reported Friday.

Hector Gutierrez was caught in Bogota in possession of an AK-47 and an AK-45, which police believe were delivered as samples to promote the purchase of a larger shipment of these weapons.

The 50 year old, who was apparently a member of the FARC’s Antonio Nariño front, was detained while travelling from Zipaquira to Bogota, allegedly in order to procure the purchase of arms and ammunition for the insurgent group.
