A former Atletico Madrid soccer great lauded Colombian striker Radamel Falcao as the “best goal scorer in the world.”
Jose Eulogio Garate, who played for the Spanish team during the late 60s early 70s, recognized Falcao as being among the top-three overall players in the world but in terms of goal scoring he believes Falcao, known as “El Tigre,” is better than the rest.
In an interview with Marca.com, Garate rated Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Falcao as currently the top three players in the world, saying, “All three are outstanding players, but Falcao right now I think is the number one striker.
“At number two is Messi because he plays in all parts of attack. He is number one in the world and is the top goal scorer..
“Finally is Ronaldo, he is a powerful player who is an outstanding case that has all features (power, heading, speed …) he is the most complete player.”
Falcao has enjoyed a fine start to the Spanish La Liga, scoring in all but one league game this season. However, despite his impressive record he still lies third in the scoring charts behind Messi and Ronaldo.
All three were nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award at the end of October, an award seen as the most prestigious individual prize in soccer.
