Falcao fifth most valuable player in the world: Report

by Simon Willis December 7, 2012

Colombia’s star striker Radamel Falcao was named the fifth most valuable soccer player in world, according to a report by Brazilian consultancy Pluri.

The Atletico Madrid frontman enjoyed the most successful year of his career in 2012 and helped his team win the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.

His impressive form caused his market value to skyrocket to $72.3 million – an 87% rise since 2011.

El Tigre, who was ranked at 40 last year, now lies just behind Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Andres Iniesta in the list of most valuable players.

Speculation about Falcao’s future at Madrid has been a huge talking point so far this season with many sections of the media suggesting the 26-year old may move to English giants Chelsea or Manchester City.

If Falcao does move clubs his transfer fee is set to become one of the biggest in history and the highest ever paid for a Colombian soccer player.
