Ex-referee Oscar Ruiz denies sexual assault

by Arron Daugherty January 27, 2012

Colombia Reports - Ruiz

Former Colombian soccer referee Oscar Ruiz denied accusations of sexual assault in a conversation with Colombian news service El Tiempo, Thursday.

German Sanchez, a former colleague, has accused the ex-referee of groping his genitals while he slept at Ruiz’s house in 2010.

Sanchez claims he tried to resolve the situation with the Colombian Soccer Federation later but no one would listen and he was later fired.

Ruiz said, “These accusation are false; defamation compounded by slander.”

According to Ruiz “[Sanchez’s] version is incoherent, many things he said are untrue. I didn’t do what he said.”

Ruiz has refereed many high profile soccer games, including games in three different World Cups.
