Bogota police have evicted at least 120 families in the middle of the night, following a ruling their homes had been illegally built.
More than 800 policement surrounded their building in the Rafael Uribe locality at 2AM this morning to carry out an eviction order, despite warnings from community leaders that the families have nowhere to go.
It follows a lawsuit from an unnamed individual who claims he owns the land on which the property is built, and that permission was not granted for the construction.
The inhabitants say that they bought the land and have deeds certifying them as owners of these lots.
According to the local mayor, the families were deceived by conmen who sold the property without owning it.
