The dubious results of voter intention polls in the Antioquia and Quindio departments may lead to an investigation by Colombian electoral authorities, newspaper El Espectador reported Wednesday.
One of the surveys, measuring the intentions to vote for the governor of Antioquia, was conducted by the Association of Higher Education Institutions of Antioquia. It revealed an almost closed gap between Green Party candidate Sergio Fajardo (38%) and Conservative Party candidate Alvaro Vasquez (35.5%). The poll aroused suspicion because in previous polls Fajardo had a much greater advantage over his opponent.
Another poll which drew attention was the survey for the intention to vote for the governor of Quindio conducted by the Association of Higher Education Institutions of the Coffee Region. It revealed that Sandra Paola Hurtado had the support of 39.9% of voters and Belen Snachezx had 24.5%. This result is also substantially different from other polls.
The head of the CNE, magistrate Joaquin Jose Vives told El Espectador that “we know that when we are in campaign season some people want to distort reality in favor of one person and we will take necessary measures … the Technical Commission of Surveillance of Surveys and Polls is tracking the issue and will definitely open official investigations if necessary.”
Colombia will hold local elections on October 30.
