Ecuador has named writer Raul Vallejo as the new ambassador to Colombia, reports Caracol.
Vallejo is the first ambassador in the post since relations between the neighboring Andean nations broke down nearly two years ago.
In March 2008 Ecuador broke off relations after Colombia raided a FARC camp in Ecuadorean territory. Quito believed the raid to be a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
The neighboring nations only fully restored their diplomatic ties in November 2010.
The Ecuadorean Foreign Ministry said that a request for approval for the nomination would be sent to Bogota in the coming hours.
Santos said that Ripoll had a “connection and a very important relationship with Ecuador, especially in academia.”
