Colombian oil company Ecopetrol announced Monday it has struck oil in the central Colombia area of Caño Sur for the fourth time this year.
After drilling for seven days in the department of Meta, they discovered deposits at a depth of 4,594 feet.
The new well is expected to yield 532 barrels a day, making it the most productive of the recently discovered sites in Colombia.
The discovery cements the area’s importance to the Colombian oil giants, who own 100% of the exploitation rights after purchasing Royal Dutch Shell’s 50% stake in February.
