A Colombian priest will be re-sentenced for the murder of his lover and their child, after a judge decided his previous sentence was insufficient, reported local media Friday.

According to investigators, Presbyterian priest Jose Francey Diaz beat his lover and their five year old daughter to death in Janurary 2007 to keep his illegitimate relationship and child a secret.

Diaz, who has already served more than four years, was originally sentenced to 23 years in prison.

In returning the case for sentencing, the judge in Belen de Umbria, in the western department of Risaralda, asked for a minimum 50 year sentence.
