One of Colombia’s most notorious drug lords, Daniel Rendon Herrera alias ”Don Mario,” could face extradition to the United States under charges that he is still committing criminal acts while serving a sentence in the Colombian prison system.
The announcement came from Colombia’s deputy Prosecutor General Jorge Fernando Pedromo who reportedly further stated that the decision would be made by senior judges of Colombia’s Supreme Court.
Don Mario, the founder and former head of the Colombian neo-paramilitary group “Los Urabeños” was captured in April 2009 whereupon the United States immediately expressed their desire to seek his extradition to the U.S. to face charges of drug smuggling.

In Colombia, the senior drug trafficker is facing accusations of human rights violations dating as far back as the 1990s when he was a commander of paramilitary organzation AUC.
The date of the hearing will be decided within the next few days by Colombia’s senior judges.
