Daughter of Colombia’s FARC leader “Simon Trinidad” allegedly died in a military bombing at the end of September.
Newsagency EFE reported on Thursday that Simon Trinidad’s daughter, aged under 18, died in a bombing in the Colombian jungle near the border of Ecuador when she was visiting her mother, Maria Victoria Hinojosa, “Lucero Trinidad.” Her mother and 26 other guerrillas were killed in the bombing.
Voz, a weekly publication from the Colombian Communist Party, claims that military intelligence confirmed that “the girl arrived the first week of September and before the bombing her presence there was confirmed, about which the high military command was warned.”
Voz further stated that the military “didn’t wait, ‘act now’ was the urgent order of the commander of the armed forces, Edgar Cely, who had discussed this before with minister of defence, Rodrigo Rivera.”
The weekly stated that “the government knew that the child was not a guerrilla and her presence in the camp was due to a family visit.” Voz questioned why the government didn’t publicly announce the girl’s death.
EFE reports that on 22 September Rivera mentioned the possibility that Trinidad’s daughter had died during the military operation.
