Week six of Colombia’s Postobon soccer league came to a close on Sunday with the top two teams, Cucuta Deportivo and Santa Fe, achieving victory, while Atletico Nacional tied yet again.
Postobon’s number one team, Cucuta Deportivo, defeated Deportes Tolima after striker Steven Mendoza struck a goal in extra time to win 2-1. The victory leaves Cucuta with 14 points and a 4-2-0 (wins/draws/loses) record. They currently sport a +7 goal differential with nine goals scored, to only two scored against them.
Bogota’s Santa Fe team handed Deportivo Cali their second loss in a row after a strong second half performance by Santa Fe with goals by Captain Omar Perez and strikers Jefferson Cuero and Wilder Medina. The 3-1 victory lifted Santa Fe to 14 points to keep them tied with Cucuta, however, they have played an extra game.
Atletico Nacional drew 3-3 against a weak Patriotas F.C. team, which marked their fourth draw in six games for the season. The game could have easily resulted in a loss for Nacional, after Stefan Medina committed a hard foul which resulted in a penalty kick at the 92 minute mark of the game. Juan Giovanni Garcia took the penalty but kicked wide of the goal, leaving Nacional at fourth place in the current standings, and without a loss this season. Forward Silvio Gonzalez scored all three goals for Patriotas F.C.
Envigado Futbol Club defeated Alianza Petrolera to win their third straight game. Envigado now has 10 points.
Meanwhile, Once Caldas knocked off Independiente Medellin, giving them sole possession of third place with 11 points, while Deportes Quindio tied with Itagui.
