Colombiatex closes with $119M expected business

Colombiatex, a Medellin textile fair for professionals in the fashion industry, saw a 7% increase in the value of business conducted in 2011’s event compared to the previous year, Spanish news agency EFE reported Friday.

At the close of the 3-day fair, which attracted over 1,200 customers, the expected business transactions are projected to amount to $119 million.

The Medellin City Cluster Project, which brought together 16 international and 14 national buyers, expects to see $12.9 million in business.

As for independant buyers, they reported closing business deals worth $6.3 million and expect to do $11.4 million more.

Proexport, a company in charge of the promotion of Colombian export products and tourism abroad, brought together over 500 international buyers who have business expectations of over $88 million.

“Colombiatex continues to consolidate and create a stage for generating business among entreprenuers and investors in sectors of textile, design and fashion,” Inexmoda Executive Chairman Carlos Eduardo Botero told EFE.

The 23rd annual Colombiatex fair took place January 25-27 in Medellin.
