Colombia News - Tennis

Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo is the only Latin American tennis player to make it past the first round in the UNICEF Open.

Giraldo advanced to the second round after beating American Michael Russell 7-6 and 6-3 in 91 minutes. The Colombian will play Germany’s Michael Berrer on Wednesday, June 15.

Fellow Colombian Alejandro Falla lost to the third-seed Belgian, Xavier Malisse, in only 56 minutes.

Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez lost to Jarkko Nieminen 7-5 and 6-1 in less than an hour.

A Colombian has never won the grass court tournament, which has been played in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands for 21 years.
