by | Sep 2, 2014

Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana lost his first place in the Vuelta d’ España after crashing his bicycle during Tuesday’s 10th stage.

Quintana, who began the stage with a narrow lead over Spain’s Alberto Contador, lost the red jersey due to a badly calculated corner that caused the rider to fall over in the time trial.

Following medical treatment on the spot, Quintana continued but finished 4:07 minutes after winner Tony Martin.

Quintana is now occupying the 11th spot of Spain’s most important cycling race at 3:25 behind Contador.

Fellow-Colombian riders Rigoberto Uran and Winner Anacona performed well and were respectively able to climb to third and fourth place in the general standing.
