Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Tuesday that Spanish judge Baltasar Garzon, who was suspended in his own country over a wiretap scandal, will continue to be actively involved in Colombia.
Garzon, internationally renowned for his human rights work, has previously worked in Colombia on human rights issues as associate of the Organization of American States.
The judge canceled his return to Colombia last week when he was suspended from practicing law in Spain amidst a wire tapping scandal of conversations between Spanish inmates and their lawyers.
In the press release, Santos expressed his gratitude and reiterated his trust of Garzon, and said the judge would greatly aid Colombia in its peace process.
