Colombia’s most talented parrot records single

by Alice Boyd October 24, 2011

singing parrot colombia news

Colombia’s most talented parrot has been climbing local music charts and achieving international fame (sort of) with his rendition of a popular Mexican ditty, “La Cucaracha.”

The brightly colored singing sensation, known as Roberto Ruiz, has become the first animal ever to record an entire song. The magic took place in a local recording studio in the north Colombian department of Sucre, with a large group of the parrot’s fans gathered outside waiting to get a glimpse at the musical maestro.

Roberto Ruiz’s first official single was released on YouTube last Saturday to tremendous success. His unique version of “La Cucaracha” is currently occupying first place on the music charts of Sucre radio station. The station has allegedly received calls from countries such as Spain requesting a copy of the parrot’s single.

Like many famous musicians and artists, the parrot-diva is allegedly quite moody and temperamental, making the recording of his first official single something of a challenge.

Roberto Ruiz has his sights set on continuing to break musical records and cracking the niche market of children’s music.
