U.S. Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers has confirmed the signing of Colombian defender Hanyer Mosquera.
Timbers General Manager Gavin Wilkinson said, “Hanyer is a player we’ve had our eye on for 18 months. He has all the attributes needed to become one of the top defenders in MLS.”
Mosquera, 24, spent the last two years playing in Colombia’s top division for La Equidad, who last season reached the finals of the Liga Postobón’s Apertura and competed in the Copa Sudamericana.
It had been thought Mosquera signed for Colombian club Millionarios, after a fans forum apparently confirmed his transfer two weeks ago.
In moving to Portland, Mosquera becomes the fourth Colombian at the club, joining countrymen Jorge Palaza, Diego Chara, and Jose Adolfo Valencia.
