Colombia finishes 2010 with $28.4B in reserves

by Hannah Aronowitz January 11, 2011

Colombia news - central bank

According to a report by the Banco de la Republica, Colombia’s international reserves reached $28.4 billion in 2010, reports Colombian newspaper El Pais.

This figure, which represent the amount of foreign currency held by the central bank, is $3 billion higher than the total international reserves recorded at the end of 2009, when it came to $25.3 billion.

In September Colombia’s central bank started a plan to purchase approximately $20 million daily through the end of the year to help ease the inflation of its currency.

The report issued by the bank indicated that after taking into account the devaluation of the peso, the increase in gross reserves amounts to $1.9 billion.
