Colombia news - Giraldo wins in Barcelona

Colombian tennis player Santiago Giraldo has won his first round match at the ATP 500 in Barcelona.

Giraldo, currently ranked number 54 in the world, beat Brazilian Thomaz Belluci, ranked 32, 7-5, 6-3.

The latest match was the fifth time the players have faced each other with Giraldo now holding a 4-1 advantage. Earlier this year Giraldo beat Belluci in the quarter-finals of the ATP tour in New Zealand and also beat him in Bogota in 2006 and in Brazil in 2007.

Belluci’s sole victory came in a win against the Colombian in the 2008 Davis Cup.

This year, Hiraldo has been a runner up in the ATP tour’s Chilean leg, a semi-finalist in New Zealand and a quarter-finalist at events in both Australia and Mexico.
