Colombian telenovela-actor Fernando Pañuela dies

by Natalie Dalton September 23, 2011

Colombia News - Fernando Pañuela

Actor, director, and playright Fernando Pañuela died alone in his apartment in Teusaquillo, Bogota, reported La Semana weekly.

The body of the late-great telenovela-star was found Thursday night by one of his sons, who stopped by for a visit. Authorities are unclear as to whether or not the death was a suicide.

Fernando Peñuela is remembered as the founder of the Teatro La Candelaria, Colombia’s first independent theater. His most recent role on television was in the telenovela “La Hija del Mariachi,” in which he played the role of bar owner “Don Memo.”

Most recently Peñuela  was performing in the play “Don Quixote,” in which he played the role of “Sancho Panza.” The inauguration of the play’s new stage season was planned for Thursday night, but was canceled at the news of the actor’s death.
