A Colombian teenager has confessed to murdering his grandparents in an apparent robbery which yielded $40, reported to Colombian media.

19-year-old Juan Manuel Cardona has claimed that he was under the influence of drugs when he cut his grandparent’s throats early Monday morning.

The bodies of Manuel Cardona [76] and Maria Ofelia Marin Sierra Ramiriza [82] were discovered by their daughter at 7am on Monday in their home in Guatica, in the western department of Risaralda.

When asked about a cut on his hand later that day Juan Manuel Cardona admitted that he had robbed and murdered his grandparents. Upon being arrested he confessed to police, blaming psychoactive drugs for his actions.

He was taken to prison in Periera, the capital of Risaralda, where he is being held pending further investigations.
