Colombia’s supreme court on Wednesday approved the extradition of “Diego Rastrojo,” who is wanted by the United States on drug trafficking charges.

Diego Rastrojo, whose real name is Diego Perez Henao, was arrested in Venezuela on June 3, 2012. He was the military command of the drug trafficking organization “Los Rastrojos” that branched off of the defunct Norte del Valle Cartel. Los Rastrojos are currently one of Colombia’s more powerful drug trafficking organizations, with alleged ties to Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.

A federal court in Florida wants Diego Rastrojo to face charges for allegedly trafficking tons of cocaine into the country. Colombian authorities are also investigating the former leader for his involvement in murders, forced disappearances and extortions.
