Colombia rose 19 places in FIFA’s world soccer ranking after their impressive performance in the Copa America tournament.
FIFA currently ranks Colombia as the 35th best team in the world. Other South American teams also benefited from their performance in the tournament; Peru rose 24 places to 25th best, and Uruguay–the champions of the Copa America–rose 13 places to their highest ranking ever, fifth.
Mexico lost ground after the tournament, dropping 11 places to the number 20 position. Brazil climbed one spot to fourth place.
Colombia did well in the Copa America, advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament, where they were knocked out by Peru who scored two goals in overtime. The final score was 2-0 despite the fact that Colombia retained possession of the ball the majority of the time.
