Week 8 of the Liga Postobon hands surprise leaders Atletico Huila a tricky journey to third-placed Envigado, while current champions Junior de Barranquilla will seek a win to help them climb out of the lower half of the table.
While the pick of this week’s games is Sunday’s clash between Huila and Envigado, the weekend’s action will open with Boyaca Chico’s visit to Barranquilla, with the 11th-placed hosts hoping to leap-frog their opponents, who currently lay in eighth. On Sunday evening, Bogota giants Millionarios host Itagui Ditaires knowing they can ill afford to drop points in an Apertura campiagn which has already seen them fall nine points adrift of the top.
For Huila the trip to the Medellin metropolitan area represents a major test. Envigado have only lost once this season and scored more goals than any other team. Huila are looking strong with three league wins in a row and both teams will be looking to put 3-1 midweek losses in the Copa Colombia behind them.
Junior’s performances in the Apertura have so far been colored by inconsistency, with four losses in their last five competitive games, while Boyaco Chico have recently picked up a head of steam and are unbeaten in their last five outings.
Millonarios will be looking to make home advantage count against league newcomers Itagui. The traditional championship contenders have started slow this season, notching up just seven of a possible 21 points. Itagui, buoyed by their midweek cup victory against Medellin city rivals Envigado, have been looking good and currently occupy equal third place.
