Colombian soccer league week 7 review

Colombia news - Nacional vs Medellin

Week seven saw a shock result in the Medellin derby, while Atletico Huila stayed top on goal difference and Once Caldas bucked their poor early season trend in style.

Atletico Nacional fell 2-1 to smaller city rivals Independiente Medellin in a shock “Paisa clasico” result Sunday. Perhaps fatigued after their midweek Copa Libertadores clash, a subdued performance cost Nacional the game as they waited too long to attempt a comeback from two goals scored either side of half time.

Atletico Huila and Deportes Tolima were equal top on points after overcoming potentially tricky fixtures. Huila beat Deportivo Pasto at home 1- 0 and Tolima scored three away from home as they dispatched Real Cartagena 3 – 1. Both Huila and Tolima have won their last three games and unexpectedly became front-runners in the 2012 Apertura title hunt.

Once Caldas bounced back from poor early season form in impressive style with a 4-0 drubbing of Cucuta Deportivo Friday. Caldas, the last Colombian team to win the Copa Libertadores, had the game wrapped up early, scoring all of their goals in the first half.
