A popular Colombian soap opera “Hasta que la plata nos separe” or “Until money do us part” in English, is going to be re-made in China, according to Colombian newspaper El Espectador.

Shooting for the Chinese version, whose title when translated means “Love contract,” will commence in the coming weeks in the coastal Chinese resort town of Xiamen in China’s southwest.

Producers hope that the recreation of the Colombian television show in China will have as much success as the Chinese version of “Ugly Betty,” which was wildly popular with Chinese audiences. “Ugly Betty” was another popular Colombian soap opera from the same producer that found international fame after being remade overseas in countries such as the United States.

The Chinese version of “Hasta que la plata nos separe” will see famous Chinese actor Tu Songyuan playing the role of the main villain in the story.

The producers plan to film the first 30 episodes of the show and will decide whether to continue according to audience success.
