Colombian sculptures to be displayed in US capital

by Marguerite Cawley May 10, 2011

Colombia News - Gabriel Beltran

The work of Colombian sculptor Gabriel Beltran has been selected for display at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington D.C, El Espectador reported.

Beltran is the only Latin American artist who has been selected to participate in the annual exposition of sculptural artists, which will occur from May 23 – June 3 at the IDB, a bank charged with providing development financing to reduce poverty and inequality in Latin American and Caribbean countries.

“Curvatura Espacial” is the name of the exposition in which Beltran, known for his abstract and constructivist structures, will display a number of his 3-D pieces of art, which explore the concept of space through color, light, geometric shapes and shadow.

The IDB exposition will reportedly demonstrate the Bogota-schooled sculptor’s capacity to create geometric solutions that harmonize with the space around them.
