Colombian police arrest at least 30 in offensive against drug gangs

Police on Thursday and Friday have arrested at least thirty members of drug trafficking organizations in central and north Colombia, several media reported.

According to a report by Caracol Radio, 13 arrests took place near the town of Arboletes on the Caribbean coast and 14 in the lower Cauca region in the northeast of the Antioquia department. Both regions are important drug trafficking routes.

RCN Radio, who reported 42 arrests, said another 20 alleged members of the “La Camila” gang were arrested in Bello, a town north of Medellin. According to RCN, more arrests were made in the capital Bogota and in several other towns across the country

One of the arrestees is “Miguel Junior,” an old member of the demobilized paramilitary organization AUC, said Caracol. Other arrestees reportedly belong to “Los Paisas” and “Los Rastrojos.”

More arrests are expected as the offensive against drug gangs was still ongoing Friday evening.
