Oil!

Colombian oil production reached a record high in June, increasing 18% over last year, the Colombian mining ministry reported.

Oil production has grown steadily this year and currently stands at 930,569 barrels a day.  Last month oil production was estimated at 927,000 barrels a day. Colombia’s oil industry has already surpassed the government’s goal of 920,000 barrels of oil produced a day by the end of 2011.

Natural gas saw a similar expansion. Colombia produced 1.037 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, a 4% increase from last month. Natural gas production has dropped .47% from last year’s production.

Construction of new hydroelectric plants reduced Colombia’s dependence on fossil fuel power plants, which decreased demand for natural gas and production.
