Colombia’s Minister of Mines and Energy Mauricio Cardenas announced he will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at this month’s Summit of the Americas.
The goal of the meeting is to discuss energy issues relating to Colombia and the Americas and to promote the theme of the summit which is “Connecting the Americas”.
“What we are looking at with the project is getting countries with surplus energy to offer help to others, but this requires an interface,” said Cardenas.
He wants Colombia to become known as a major exporter of electricity, not just coal and oil.
Colombia is also considering importing gas from Bolivia, who has taken great strides in improving its hydrocarbon industry recently.
The Summit of the Americas is being hosted in the coastal city of Cartagena April 14 and 15. 34 leaders are expected to attend, including U.S. President Barack Obama.
