Colombian animal rights groups seek the identity of marines photographed setting a dog on fire, reported local media Sunday.
In the July 2011 photo, marines appear handling a dog near an open fire, with the apparent intention of burning it alive.
Upon acquiring the image animal rights groups in Colombia sent the photo, along with a letter demanding the identity of the marines, to military officials and the president of Colombia.
The navy says it is conducting an investigation. Marine Infantry Commander Luis Gomez said the men in the picture were “savage and disgraceful” and did not belong in the navy.
