Colombian manufacturing grows 9.5% on year

Colombia saw 9.5% year on year growth for the month of August in the manufacturing sector, according to government statistics agency DANE.

According to DANE figures, between August 2010 and August 2011, 38 of the 48 industrial sub-sectors registered a growth in output.

In the beverages sector there was 23.5% growth, automotive vehicles and motors saw an increase of  29.7%, sugar refinery and pressing went up by 32.6%, non-metallic mineral products has an 11.8% increase, and the processing of oils and fats, fruits and vegetables rose by 30%.

The number of people employed in the Colombian manufacturing sector grew 1.8% in August 2011 compared to the same month last year. The number of workers on indefinite contracts went up by 2.2% while the number of workers on fixed contracts increased by 1.3%.

Sales made at the point of manufacture increased by 9.4% for August 2011 compared to the same period last year. The figures do not include the threshing of coffee.
