The family of a Colombian teenager who died after he was shot by police with a stun gun, called for an independent inquiry into his death, reported the BBC on Friday.

Israel Hernandez-Llach, a Colombian national who resided in Florida, on Tuesday was shot by police when applying paint to a closed McDonalds restaurant.

According to the BBC, the teenager was in distress when he arrived at the police station and died shortly after.

The teenagers family held a press conference on Thursday, in which they called for an independent body to investigate the incident.

The shooting was described as an “act of barbarism” by the teenager’s mother, while the family’s lawyer said “there is no justification for this kind of action.”

According to the BBC, Miami Beach police chief said that his department was investigating the incident.
