by Courtney Scott September 10, 2012

Colombia news - Skating

Colombia has skated their way to first place in the 2012 Inline Speed-Skating World Championship.

The Colombian selection won 14 medals during the skating world championship that took place in Italy this past weekend, making them leaders of the sport followed by the host team Italy and then the selection of South Korea. The Colombian athletes took away 9 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals overall, four medals ahead of the second-place Italy team.

The country’s President Juan Manuel Santos congratulated the skaters that competed in Italy on his Twitter account.

“Congratulations also to Juan Camilo Perez and Magda Garces that won silver medals and Carolina Upegui who won bronze in skating,” wrote the president after earlier praising Colombian athletes in the London 2012 Paralympics that ended this past weekend.

Felicitaciones también a Juan Camilo Pérez y Magda Garcés que lograron medallas de plata y Carolina Upegui quien logró bronce en patinaje.
