Colombia soccer league week 4 review

An exciting week for Colombia’s Postobon soccer league came to a close Sunday with Deportivo Pasto sitting alone in first place and defending champs Bogota‘s Millionarios dropping down to fifth place after suffering their first defeat.

Deportivo Pasto, a team from the southern department of Nariño, beat Junior de Barranquilla 1-0 after Camilo Perez scored a goal in the 73rd minute. The goal came after Junior went a man down after Pasto Gabriel Gomez was cited with his second yellow card.

Perez’s fourth goal this season means he stays atop the leading scorers chart while his club currently has 10 points, having won three and drawn one through their first four games. Since rising to the top flight in 1999 they have won one championship, in 2006.

The defending Liga Postobon champs, the Millionarios of Bogota, dropped their match to Once Caldas following a late penalty kick scored by Edwards Jimenez in the 77th minute. Both teams have seven points a piece.

Also on Saturday, Atletico Nacional of Medellin tied 1-1 with Itagui Ditaires in the Antioquia department showdown. Atletico Nacional is now tied for second with eight points along with Deportivo Cali and Cucuta who played each other to a scoreless tie on Sunday. All three squads remain undefeated.

Next week’s showdowns include Independiente  Medellin against nearby rivals Envigado. Each team is looking for their second win of the season. Meanwhile, Pasto will look to remain undefeated when they take on a weak Tolima team ahead of their week six match in Bogota against the Millionarios.
