Six Colombian soccer teams face a tense battle this weekend to see who can secure the final two places in Liga Postobon’s last eight.
Three points separate six teams all hoping to progress to the final eight of the Postobon league in what promises to be a nail-biting weekend.
Deportivo Independiente Medellin and Cucuta Deportivo currently occupy the final two spots in the top eight and both know that victories on Sunday will secure their passage through.
DIM face a tough trip to Deportes Quindio, a team that also has an outside chance of progressing provided they gain all three points. A win may not even be enough for Quindio as they are also relying on game results to go their way in order to move into the top eight.
Elsewhere Cucuta Deportivo and Deportivo Pasto face each other knowing that the winner will progress. While a draw could be enough for Cucuta, this outcome will not suffice for Pasto who currently sit two points behind their opponents.
Boyaca Chico are one point off the top eight but will fancy their chances of victory when they face Santa Fe on their home turf on Sunday.
Reigning champions Santa Fe were eliminated last weekend and Boyaca will hope to take advantage of the drop in confidence among the Santa Fe players.
The other team with a chance at progression following this weekend’s match is Deportivo Cali who play on Saturday against already-qualified La Equidad.
Deportivo Cali are the long-shots to move on as they sit two points off the pace and are relying on other results to go their way, in addition to a win against La Equidad.
Whatever the outcome it all makes for an entertaining weekend.
Elsewhere leaders Millionarios face Patriotas Boyaca, Junior entertain Once Caldas while recent Copa Postobon winners Atletico Nacional take on Real Cartagena.
