Colombia has released COP 10,000 and 20,000 notes with raised braille symbols to help blind people distinguish between the two, the country’s central bank reported Tuesday.
According to the central bank, the new bills have the same general design and security characteristics as the former edition, but with an additional raised symbol on the left-hand side that corresponds to the numbers 10 and 20 in braille.
One hundred million of each of the bills were released in mid-June, and have now begun to be distributed in Bogota, while the remaining bills will be divided up among different locations of the Banco de la Republica (the central bank) in the country to begin circulation in the national market.
According to information released by the bank, all denominations of COP bills, with the exception of the slightly smaller COP 1,000 notes, to be released by the bank in the future will have braille symbols to ease identification for blind people.
