Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos on Thursday announced measures for combatting crime in northern Bogota.
“We noticed that there is a problem: the children are being used by criminals in gangs. Therefore, we’ll intervene to more effectively combat this type of crime,” said the head of state.
The president focused on the vulnerability of areas with a strong gang presence.
Together, the members of the National Government, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Police will be deployed to improve security in the northeast section of Bogota, where microtrafficking and microextortion are strong.
Bogota’s street crime levels are amongst the highest in Colombia, however the Colombian capital has experienced a steady fall in homicides over the past decade.
