Colombia military still searching for Canadian ELN hostage

by Benjy Hansen-Bundy February 18, 2013

Colombia’s minister of defense on Monday said that the military is still searching for the Canadian citizen who was kidnapped by Colombia’s second largest rebel group, the ELN, in January.

“Of course, the military and police…in the area are still trying to locate this Canadian citizen kidnapped by the terrorist group. That group is looking for money as always and that shows the kind of bandits and criminals they are,” said minister Juan Carlos Pinzon.

The Canadian, Jernoc Wobert, of the Geo Explorer oil company, was kidnapped by ELN guerrillas in January.

Five ELN hostages were released last week, all employees of the oil company. Wobert was not among them.

The rebels still have not released two German nationals who the insurgents claim are spies, something the Colombian government has categorically denied.
