Colombia coffee production, exports increased in August

The production of Colombian coffee rose more than 20% in August compared to the same month last year.

The National Federation of Coffee (Federacafe) said in a report that coffee production increased by 21% and exports by 56% in August compared to the same month of the previous year.

According to Caracol Radio, this will be the 5th consecutive month that the production of coffee in Colombia has registered a growth. The country produced 565k bags of approximately 132 pounds, and allegedly exported 599k bags of the same weight during the month of August.

However, according to the International Coffee Organization (ICO) in a report last week Colombia had registered as 6th place globally in coffee production for the first half of 2012, reported newspaper El Tiempo. Vietnam was registered as the first in coffee production, while Brazil, Honduras, Indonesia and India also exceeded Colombia.
