Colombia arrests Venezuela intelligence officials in border region

by Richard Kelleher March 6, 2017

Two members of Venezuela’s national intelligence agency were arrested in northeastern Colombia on Sunday, local media reported.

According to the reports, the Venezuelan officials crossed the Colombia border into the La Guajira province, while in armed pursuit of two criminals fleeing on motorbike.

The officers reached as far as the town of Paraguachon, before they were intercepted by members of Colombia’s army and national police.

The chase sparked trouble in the neighborhood of San Martin as shots were fired, while locals circled the intelligence officials’ vehicle with the intention of mobbing them.

Colombia’s Foreign Ministry and Venezuela’s consulate in Colombia are now handling appropriate international protocol in order to resolve the issue, according to Caracol Radio.
