Colombia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom handed his letter of credence to Queen Elizabeth II in a formal ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday.

During the meeting, the British royal expressed her satisfaction both with the progress of Colombia, and the countries’ bilateral relations, according to a press release published by the Colombian Embassy in London.

Queen Elizabeth II and the Ambassador also discussed Colombia’s peace process and various other topics, including cooperation in trade, culture and the progress of education, said the embassy.

Ambassador Nestor Osorio, who hails from Bogota, has been representing Colombia abroad for years.

Previously heading the International Coffee Organization (ICO) from 2002 to 2010 and acting as Colombia’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Osorio was elected President of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in January 2013. Later that year in November he was appointed as the Colombian Ambassador to the United Kingdom in London by President Juan Manuel Santos.
