ChocQuibTown singer arrested in Cali

by Katharina Wecker August 20, 2012

Colombia News - Tostao

A member of one of Grammy nominee ChocQuibTown was arrested Sunday after getting into a fight with security guards at a music festival in Cali.

Carlos “Tostao” Valencia, MC of the Colombian hip-hop fusion group, spent Sunday evening in jail for disturbing public order after he got into a fight with security members who refused to let him enter the Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival for not recognizing the musician.

The police released Tostao the same night without charges.

“Tostao was brought to the [police] station Lido, in the south of Cali, where he signed papers and regained his freedom,” his friend and singer Zully Murillo told local media.

The rapper kept his fans posted about his ordeal via Twitter. “I am now detained in a police van, should I get beaten up you already know,” Tostao tweeted.

The Petronio Alvarez Pacific Music Festival is an annual event to celebrate the different cultures of the Pacific coast.
