Colombia’s Caribbean city of Cienaga is prepared for four days of festivities as the locals celebrate the legend of the Cienagueran Cayman.
Starting at 4:00 pm Wednesday, the Cienaguerans will dance their way to various corners of the city before converging again at the Centennial Plaza for a presentation at city hall. The Grand Parade takes place at 2:00 pm Thursday and starting at Parque Sagrado Corazon (Sacred Heart Park).
With this being the last festival organized by the current local administration, Mayor Luis Gastelbondo and the Secretary of Sports and Culture have been working hard and taking extra measures to ensure the success of the festival, reports El Reportador.
Spectators will be treated to dances from different parts of the department, Magdalena, as well as the Caribbean Region and the rest of the country. The Mayor has also stepped up the police and army presence in the area in order to provide “necessary security and tranquility.”
Various musical groups will entertain the crowds over the course of the festival, which ends Saturday. Some musicians are expected to have adapted their instruments in honour of the Cienagueran Cayman.
