Colombia’s Caribbean port of Cartagena sends representatives to a famous cruise fair in Miami to promote the city’s tourist industry, according to a report on the city website.
The Seatrade Cruise Shipping event has taken place annually for the past 26 years, with approximately 10,000 attendees each time. Among these are representatives of the tourism, cruise, production and sales sectors from each country invited to promote their products and share the latest news in technology, marketing, and ship design.
This marks the fourth year of participation for the city of Cartagena. Representatives from the Cartagena de Indias Tourism Corporation will be present until Thursday, March 17, along with strategic partners the Regional Port Society of Cartagena, Proexport and the head mayor of la Heroica.
President of the Tourism Corporation Luis Ernesto Araujo said that, “In the past four years Cartagena has grown in respect to cruises, which directly impacts the finances and the economy of the city. For that, we’re going to this fair to continue to consolidate our city as a destination for the great shipping companies of the world.”
According to the website, the cruise sector has been the most quickly growing sector of Colombia’s tourism industry since 2003.
The arrival of a high number of tourists via cruise ships this past winter was credited with preventing excessive rains from ruining the holiday tourist season in Cartagena.
