Bus drops off cliff killing 1, wounding 10 in central Colombia

by Tim Hinchliffe November 23, 2011

bus accident

A bus rolls off a cliff on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring 10 more in Colombia’s central department of Tolima.

The accident occurred in an area known as Buenos Aires, near the village of Playarica where apparently there was a mechanical failure, and the bus driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus rolled into the abyss off the road linking Roncesvalles and Ibague.

The wounded, which included three minors, were taken to medical centers in Rovira and Roncesvalles in south-central Tolima, according to Roncesvalles Mayor, Edwin Guayara.

The accident was attended by the region’s local firefighters, and police are investigating the exact causes of the fatal accident.
